New Performing Arts Summer School to Open in Cardiff this August
•Week-long course to be held at the National Museum of Wales – no auditions necessary
•75 places available for aspiring actors, dancers and singers from any age from 10 to 100!
Cardiff, August 4th 2008. Professional actor, dancer and Italia Conti Academy trained teacher Peter Ferris today announced that Ferris Entertainment Agency and Actors Studio will be launching a week-long performing arts summer school at the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff from 11th to 15th August 2008.
With a family heritage in the entertainment industry and over 20 years experience in the business (both performing and teaching), Peter has been lucky to be in the right place at the right time to be able to spot and nurture talent. Former pupils he has taught include the likes of Martine McCutcheon, Louise Redknapp, Claire Sweeny, Claire Goose, Emmerdale's Sheree Murphey and Gabi Anwar (Scent of a Woman with Al Pacino).
A resident of Penarth, Peter regularly teaches one-day professional screen acting classes and singing and dance lessons through the performing arts arm of the Ferris Entertainment Agency, however this is the first week-long, all-round performing arts course to be launched at the National Museum of Wales following a week in Belfast and followed by a week in Marlborough.
“There is a wealth of natural talent in this country and our weekly classes can often be over-subscribed with pupils travelling from as far away as Hay-on-Wye to attend. The opportunity to open a summer school in Cardiff, where students can spend a full week immersed in learning stage craft, audition techniques, screen and film acting, as well as song and dance, has long been a dream of mine.”
Peter continues “There will be no audition process instead students simply need to call Ferris Entertainment and be prepared to answer a short interview as to why they would like a place at the summer school. If successful they will be informed straight away and given details as to how to secure their place. Unfortunately there are only a limited number of places available so students are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.”
Firmly believing that in order to succeed in the entertainment industry you have to learn from experts, current stars and people working at the highest levels of the industry, lessons at the summer school will include coaching in dance (MTV Style and musical theatre), screen acting for film and TV and the full remit of singing expertise from some of the finest teachers in the industry.
Douglas Yolland (teaching dance and MTV movement for singers and bands) trained at Italia Conti and is a dancer choreographer who has danced with the likes of J-Lo, filmed in Times Square, New York, toured as a dancer with Take That and worked closely with Justin Timberlake’s Choreographer Martie Kadelco.
Anthony Cable (teaching singing) has taught for over 10 years as well as being an experienced performer. His West End career includes appearing in The Sound of Music, Whistle Down the Wind, Phantom of the Opera and Anything Goes for the National Theatre with Torchwood's John Barrowman.
Peter Ferris (teaching screen acting for film and television) has been teaching for over 20 years after training at the Italia Conti Academy. His acting career has included roles in Heartbeat, London’s Burning, The Bill and Grange Hill as well as stage performances of Over The Bridge, Rough Beginnings and Too Late To Talk To Billy. He specialises in teaching camera technique, screen acting and audition technique.
At the end of the summer school pupils may be invited
to join the Ferris Entertainment Agency and Actors Studio in order to be submitted for Film, Television and Stage auditions.
